GoldenEye Remastered Version NOT Appearing on Switch or Xbox

Last Updated on September 15, 2022

Things have got a bit complicated. The GoldenEye remastered version that you think you’re getting on Xbox Games Pass is not the same as the one that leaked in 2021.

No one seems to know why.

IGN has established that while the Xbox version of GoldenEye will have some features the Switch version doesn’t (but no online multiplayer as with the Nintendo Switch version), the 4K resolution and smooth framerates announced by Rare do not refer to the “reskinned” version intended for release in 2010.

So, to summarise, the GoldenEye remaster is not coming any time soon, but the original version with upscaled graphics is. The Nintendo Switch version has online multiplayer, but the Xbox version – for a platform known more for online multiplayer than single player games – has no online multiplayer. But it looks nice – just not as nice as the unreleased version that is staying unreleased.

For the time being, at least.

If you want to play the version that enhanced for the Xbox 360 back in the late noughties, you’re going to have to run it on your PC.

Fortunately, we have a guide for installing the GoldenEye remaster using the Xenia Xbox emulator.
