Four New Classics Have Landed on the Nintendo Switch Virtual Console

Nintendo has just added four new titles to the Virtual Console libraries on the Switch, although many players in the West won’t have heard of all of them. The new titles are for the SNES, Game Boy, and NES, so you only need the base subscription to play them. Here’s what’s included:
- Kirby’s Star Stacker (SNES)
- Quest for Camelot (GameBoy)
- Downtown Nekketsu March: Super-Awesome Field Day (NES)
- Joy Mech Fight (NES)
Nintendo of America announced the new additions on their official YouTube channel.
The comments section is full of players happy to see several Japanese exclusives finally getting an international release. Many are also excited to play through Quest for Camelot, an adventure game that borrows more than a few ideas from The Legend of Zelda.
At the time of writing, the like/dislike ratio on the video is positive, but plenty of players wish the Japanese titles had English translations. The games in question are easy enough to figure out, but it’s a valid concern. A few users also mentioned they would prefer to see more well-known classics, like the Game Boy Pokemon games.
Over the years, Nintendo has amassed quite a respectable library of games for the Virtual Consoles, but there are plenty of baffling omissions. The cynic in me sees these holes in the library as a way to sell the titles separately or as part of a bundle down the line. After all, why would Nintendo add heavy hitters like Mega Man and Contra when they’ll sell like hotcakes in their respective collections?
Still, the odd classic does make its way to the Virtual Console, and the library keeps on growing. If you want to spend an evening playing Punch Out!, Donkey Kong, or Puyo, there are few better places to do it than on the Nintendo Switch.
