Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II Now Out on Nintendo Switch

With the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series doing great things on Disnet+, releasing Knights of the Old Republic II on the same day as the show’s best episode so far is expert timing.

Subtitled The Sith Lords, the game (known more commonly as KOTOR 2) was initially released back in 2004, and is now available to buy on Nintendo Switch, following the arrival of the previous game in September 2021. Here’s the synopsis:

In this standalone sequel to the award-winning RPG STAR WARS: Knights of the Old Republic, the Sith Lords have hunted the Jedi to the edge of extinction and are on the verge of crushing the Old Republic.

With the Jedi Order in ruin, the Republic’s only hope is a lone Jedi in exile struggling to reconnect with the Force. Lead a diverse crew of unique allies, make difficult choices with far-reaching consequences, and decide your destiny. Will you follow the light side and save the Galaxy, or succumb to the dark side and bring it all down…

Set five years after the original game, Knights of the Old Repiblic II was developed by Obsidian, whereas the original was the work of Bioware. The difference in development teams and a darker storyline both work towards giving KOTOR 2 a more intimidating and foreboding atmosphere.

The game’s opening crawl reads:

It is a perilous time for the
galaxy. A brutal civil war has
all but destroyed the Jedi
Order, leaving the ailing
Republic on the verge of
collapse.

Amid the turmoil, the evil
Sith have spread across the
galaxy, hunting down and
destroying the remaining
Jedi Knights.

Narrowly escaping a deadly
Sith ambush, the last known
Jedi clings to life aboard a
battered freighter near the
ravaged world of Peragus…

You can order Knights of the Old Republic II in the Nintendo Store now, both standalone and in a double pack with Knights of the Old Republic II .
