New RetroFlag Controller Turns the Switch into a GameCube!

Last Updated on December 3, 2022

There’s always a lot of talk about the GameCube days in the retro gaming community, and there are still endless positive memories of playing with its unique controller. Nintendo’s controllers have certainly changed significantly over time. Whether it was for the better or for worse is pretty subjective to any gamer.

But what if you could bring back the satisfaction of retro gaming on a modern console?

Thanks to RetroFlag, that’s become possible! They have created a new GameCube-style controller that’s compatible with the original Nintendo Switch and OLED models. It simply fits around the Switch screen and functions as a pro-controller, with that GameCube aesthetic and feel.

The transparent purple colour is a call-back to the original controller, with the classic d-pad, curved shoulder buttons and the C-stick.

What gives this controller the one-up is its inability to develop drift due to its Hall Effect sensing joysticks. No more cursor endlessly flying across the screen in Stardew Valley! It also features rumble vibration, USB-C port for charging and motion controls, so you don’t miss out on those actively immersive experiences.

Sadly, its not currently available to purchase in the UK. Canada’s Amazon site have none available at the moment, but we do know it costs $69.99. It’s the same news for the US site unfortunately. A true indication of just how sought after these accessories really are.
