Amazing New Spectrum 128 Game Ringo

Think ZX Spectrum games are all about thin lines and colour clash? Think again: new Spectrum 128 game Ringo will completely change your perception.

Boasting slightly blockier graphics but with colours more akin to a BBC Micro, Ringo is a platformer “made in experimental graphic mode” – and it shows! As you can see from the trailer, the game looks amazing. Here’s the video blurb:

Ringo is a logical platformer made in experimental graphic mode and inspired by classic arcade games. You play as a young Snoogle named Ringo who needs to find as many magic stars as possible in the underground labyrinths of the twilight land. The fact is that the Snoogles use the stars to illuminate their homes during the long winter evenings. And as you know, even a cup of hot lingonberry tea is no fun in total darkness!

So, about that “experimental graphic mode”… from what we can tell, its about assigning colour to graphics in a slightly different way.

There’s a bit more about its implementation for Ringo:

Developed by Denis Grachev, Nik-O, and Ivan Seleznev, Ringo was published by Russian Federation house RetroSouls. Perhaps the political situation, they have opted to release the game free. You can find Ringo at ZXOnline, where it can also be played in the browser, an emulator, or even an original Spectrum 128.
