Untitled Shmup In Development For Sega Genesis/Mega Drive
Last Updated on March 8, 2023
Japanese video game developer, Ancient is working on a new Shoot ’em up for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. The project doesn’t have a title yet, but there’s already some promising footage of the game in action. You can check it out here:
The gameplay looks incredibly smooth and clearly takes inspiration from other titles in the genre, like R-Type and Darius. The game is in early development, but there are plans for eight stages. Even the style of the soundtrack is up in the air right now, but the CEO of Ancient-corp, Yuzo Kashiro, is very active on Twitter and is constantly dropping tidbits of information about the project. You can check him out here
Ancient hasn’t made many well-known titles lately, but they are the devs behind the legendary Streets of Rage 2&3 on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. They also made one of my favorite party games, Fusion Frenzy 2, on the Xbox 360. Needless to say, the project is in good hands, and when it finally gets a title, I look forward to following it more closely.
