GoldeneEye 007 on Nintendo Switch

Can’t See the GoldenEye Remaster on the Nintendo eShop? Do This

Last Updated on March 2, 2023

You probably know that a GoldenEye remaster (although that term can be contested) is now available on the Nintendo Switch. But why can’t you find it in the Nintendo eShop?

The answer to this is simple, but potentially also frustrating. In short, GoldenEye 007 isn’t in the Nintendo eShop. So, how do you get to play it?

Play GoldenEye 007 via the Nintendo Switch Online+ Expansion

You’ve heard of Nintendo Switch Online. You may even have a subscription to it, a service that lets you play games online, as well as including a few retro options, such as classic Nintendo Entertainment System/Famicom titles.

What the Nintendo Switch Online subscription doesn’t do is let you play Nintendo 64 games. For that functionality, you need to upgrade your membership, from Nintendo Switch Online to the Nintendo Switch Online+ Expansion Pack.

As well as Nintendo 64 titles, this gives you Nintendo Game Boy Advance games, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games, and expansions for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, and Animal Crossing.

You can sign up for the Nintendo Switch Online+ Expansion Pack with a free 7-day trial for just £34.99 for 12 months. Compare that to the price of Xbox Game Pass which is £7.99 a month. While you’ll get GoldenEye 007 on the Xbox One and Series consoles with that subscription, it costs quite a bit more over the year.

“This is the part I really like”

So, you’ve got the Nintendo Switch Online+ Expansion Pack added to your account. You’re now free to play Nintendo 64 games like GoldenEye 007, Star Fox, and others. But you still won’t see the GoldenEye remaster in the eShop.

Why?

Well, what you need to do is look for the Nintendo 64 app. Once you have installed this instead, the N64 games available in the Nintendo Switch Online+ Expansion can be played. Just open the Nintendo 64 app, and the games will be ready to play.

So, select GoldenEye 007, and prepare for your first mission.

Congratulations, you can now play GoldenEye 007 on your Nintendo Switch – although you might want to tweak the default controls.
