Atari STE Top-Down Racer Demo Impresses on Twitter
Last Updated on March 25, 2023
It’s fair to say we don’t include a lot of Atari ST/STE articles on this site.
As an Amiga 500 owner in the early 1990s the Atari ST seemed to be nothing more than a useful addition to any electronic music setup and fairly pointless when it came to gaming.
Of course, I’m aware that Atari ST games exist, but when the main competitor is the Amiga (and the Acorn Archimedes is arguably also better) it all seemed rather pointless.
But then I saw this…
Here’s a video capture showing an early prototype of my new fast-paced top-down racer for the #AtariSTe.

Cars are driven by the AI as I couldn’t record and play at the same time.

As noted by the developer, the tile map is from an Amiga game. But just look at the smooth scrolling and the drift. It looks really impressive and I’ll be honest my jaw dropped when I first saw it.
Currently there is no information from Keith Clark on a release for this game, or even confirmation that it will ever see the light of day. But as an example of what the Atari STE could have been, it’s heart-warming, encouraging stuff.
