Atari Acquires Night Dive Studios, Retro Reissue Possibilities

On Yahoo! Finance Report, it was announced that Atari would be acquiring developer and publisher Night Dive Studios renowned for re-introducing retro games such as Doom 64, System Shock and Quake on modern consoles.

By April 2023, Atari would have acquired all of Night Dive Studios in order to expand their IP library through Night Dive’s developed technology like the KEX Engine which allows older games to be played on modern software. Stephen Kick and Larry Kuperman, being the Principals of Night Dive, explain how both companies revere retro gaming and value refreshing them to a high standard. They highlight their appreciation to be working with the industry giant.

In the terms, it mentions that there is “an initial consideration of US$10 million payable half in cash and half in Atari shares at the closing of the acquisition plus an earn-out of up to US$10 million, payable in cash over the next three years based on the future performance of Night Dive”.

Wade Rosen, CEO of Atari, acknowledges Night Dive’s “proven expertise” in remastering retro games and has plans for “retro-focused growth” with them for the future. Having already had a 13% stake in Night Dive, he also states how their work with them was “well-aligned”.
