The PicoZX LCD Is the ZX Spectrum Handheld You Always Wanted

Last Updated on October 20, 2023

Completely portable and with an 18650 battery, the PicoZX LCD is a ZX Spectrum that you can slip in a bag or sizeable pocket. There’s a 2.8-inch colour screen and Spectrum style multi function command shortcut keyboard.

It also boasts a microSD slot, Kempston joystick support, external joystick port, external display port, and thanks to the Multi-Computer Machine Emulator, which runs Commodore 64 and other emulators.

Managing the magic, as it were, is a Raspberry Pi Pico. This is the RP2040 32-bit microcontroller released in 2021 and has provided the basis for many projects since release.

The PicoZX LCD is the brainchild of Peter “Bobricius” Misenko, and you can learn more about it in the video above.

In short, it looks amazing. Check the links in the video for more information about Misenko’s projects and Patreon.
