New ScummVM Download: v2.7.0 Ready For Testing

ScummVM’s latest version, 2.7.0 has just been released, and with it, the list of supported games keeps on growing. Currently, ScummVM supports over 300 games, including titles from Westwood Studios, Revolution Software, and LucasArts.

The latest version of the software comes with new shaders to emulate CRT screens. This is a welcome addition, as games designed to work with this type of display look completely different on modern hardware.

If this is your first time hearing about the project, it’s important to note that ScummVM is NOT an emulator, as it rewrites the executable files of every game it runs. Files from the original games are still required, and many of these titles are still purchasable online. You can find a great list of such on the wiki.

As each game in ScummVM has its executable rewritten to enable compatibility, some bugs that weren’t present in the original can show up. There is a bug tracker for these, and I expect many issues will be ironed out through the testing phase.

If you want to try it out for yourself, you can grab the ScummVM download today. On this page, you’ll also find installation instructions for many platforms, including PC, Sony PSP, and Android devices.

As ScummVM is released under GPL (General Public License), the source code is available to anyone as long as whatever you use it for is also open source.
