MSX Classic Knightmare Released on Amiga

Konami classic Knightmare – originally released for MSX computers – has been ported to Amiga. The game is a top-down, vertical scrolling shooter, with a twist – you’re not controlling a spacecraft, but a knight.

The MSX was a classic home computer developed by Microsoft and ASCII Corporation for the Japanese market (and surrounding territories). Knightmare is one of the many games produxed for the MSX by Konami, and the first of a three game series. Each boasted a different style of game play.

In the original Knightmare, you play as Popolon, with the mission of rescuing the Goddess of Love and Beauty, Aphrodite, from the Price of Darkness, battlng through eight levels. To combat the enemies and level bosses along the way, power-ups are available to upgrade powers and weapons.

The Amiga version is for OCS/ECS and later systems with 512k chip and 512k of other RAM. NTSC or play at 60Hz requires fast RAM or a faster processor. The Amiga version of Knightmare features:

  • Original game fully disassembled to ensure accurate gameplay
  • All graphics remastered by Toni Galvez
  • Brand new title and loading screens
  • High quality Amiga Enhanced Sound Effects
  • All levels and bosses have unique Amiga Enhanced soundtracks
  • All new Hi-score table with automatic saving to disk
  • 50hz / 60hz gameplay option
  • Built-in auto-fire
  • Additional secret bonus power-up added ( can you find it? )
  • Compatible with all Amigas running 512k chip and 512k other ram

Knightmare is available as an ADF file to can be loaded onto a standard Amiga via floppy disk, mounted on a Gotek or other drive emulator, or loaded in an emulator like WinUAE or FS-UAE. There is currently no WHDLoad support. You can download Knightmare free from the developer’s homepage, or learn more from the Github page.

To support the developer, consider buying the soundtrack for the Amiga version of Knightmare.
