Could the Switch get the Red Dead Redemption remaster

Is the Red Dead Redemption Remaster Coming to Nintendo Switch?

Last Updated on July 29, 2023

Early in July, information about a Red Dead Redemption remaster had a lot of gunslinger-starved fans excited. But it seems there is even better news if you’re a Switch owner, as it seems the remastered RDR could be coming to the Nintendo system.

Red Dead Redemption was released back in 2010 for Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3, and was a sequel to the largely forgotten 2004 game Red Dead Revolver. In recent rears, the success of 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 has raised interest in RDR1 (the later game is a prequel, with some shared characters) to the extent that a remaster of the first game has been a persisten rumour.

This rumour went into second gear earlier in the month, and it is now widely accepted that Rockstar is working on a project for release.

Initially, the remaster was expected for Xbox Series and PlayStation 5, but recent leaks indicate the Switch may also be getting a version..

Obviously rumours are often just that, but this does have the feel of soething tangible (like the endless GoldeneEye 007 rumours which eventually came to fruition).

At this stage, it’s not clear if the Red Dead Redemption remaster will be a simple upgrade in graphics, perhaps with the addition of a revised UI, or a competely new approach to the game using the RDR2 engine.

No firm announcements have been made yet, but I wonder if we’ll see a PC version of the Red Dead Redemption remaster? After all, RDR2 came out on PC eventually…
