Wooden retro game console ANBERNIC RG351V

Is ANBERNIC’s New Vertical Retro Handheld Made From Wood?

Last Updated on May 29, 2024

For years, transistor-based tech covered in wood failed to look awesome or retro or steampunk, instead looking cheap. In most cases, the words “school woodworking project” would be an apt description. Which brings us neatly to ANBERNIC’s RG351V, a forthcoming retro handheld…

Inside the wooden chassis (there seems to be a plastic alternative) the RG351V specs are:

  • 3.5″ IPS Display 4:3 ratio (640 x 480)
  • Quad Core 1.3GHZ CPU (RK3326)
  • Mali-G31 MP2 GPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • Dual TF card slots
  • Dual OTG interface
  • Built in Wi-Fi
  • 3900MAH Battery

The Gameboy-like design has a D-pad, thumbstick, and shoulder buttons. Some have speculated that the wooden finish is due to the final look yet to be settled on. We hope that’s true, but while it’s not difficult to output a case from a 3D printer, using CNC machining to create a suitable piece of wood is almost as simple these days.

To be fair, the wooden finish might be all that helps this unambitious handheld stand out in an increasingly competitive market.
