Fancy a Felix the Cat Collection? You Might Be In Luck

Last Updated on February 24, 2024

A Felix the Cat collection could be heading to Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

While Felix the Cat might not be as famous of Mickey Mouse, he’s still had his own series of games. Various appearances across various retro media look set to be re-released in a new Felix the Cat collection.

(Note: “Felix the Cat” should not be confused with “Fritz the Cat.”)

A recent listing on the ESRB website states:

This is a collection of action platformers in which players help Felix save his girlfriend from an evil professor. Players traverse 2D pixelated environments while using gadgets and vehicles (e.g., punching glove, tank, submarine) to defeat small cartoony creatures. Enemies typically fall from the screen when hit; some boss encounters depict whimsical pistol attacks, cartoony bombs, and mild explosions.

Accompanied by an E rating (for “Everyone), the listing states the following platforms: Windows PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch.

Who is Felix the Cat?

In case you were wondering, Felix the Cat is an anthropomorphic black cat created in 1919 by Pat Sullivan and Otto Messmer during the silent film era. Felix first appeared in the short film “Feline Follies” in 1919, and quickly became a popular character. He starred in over 150 silent films before the advent of sound in movies, and is rarely seen without a bag of tricks, within which various tools and gadgets are hidden.

What games has Felix the Cat appeared in?

Officially, Felix the Cat has appeared in the following official titles:

  • Felix the Cat (NES, 1992)
  • Felix the Cat (Game Boy, 1993)
  • Baby Felix Halloween (Game Boy Color, 2001)
  • Felix the Cat (Windows, 2001)
  • Baby Felix Tennis (PlayStation, 2002)
  • Felix the Cat: Bomb (Java, 2007)

It seems likely the official games – or at least the Nintendo titles – will feature in the collection. These games all feature in the video above.

UPDATE: Limited Run Games has confirmed the collection comprises the first two titles, Felix the Cat for NES, and Felix the Cat for Game Boy.

Interestingly, two other games have been released starring Felix the Cat. Both are unlicensed titles by fans:

  • Felix the Cat by Dragon Co (NES, 1998)
  • Felix the Cat (Sega Mega Drive, 2010)

No release date has been given for the Felix the Cat collection.
