Downloadable Nintendo Power Issues Taken Down

Last Updated on June 1, 2024

Nintendo of America and Future US’s long-running print magazine Nintendo Power temporarily became downloadable from Internet Archive. All 285 issues that were published between 1988 and 2012 were uploaded by archivists on a project called ‘Retromags’.

All of this is added up to 40GB worth of media, however, there was a long wait for downloads (including single ones) due to high demands from readers. Unfortunately, downloads are no longer available from the website [LINK REMOVED]. It’s not clear as to why or when they were taken down but we can only assume it may have something to do with the rights to the work. The website page states that “Items may be taken down for various reasons, including by decision of the uploader or due to a violation of our Terms of Use.”

Before they were removed, uploader ‘Gumball’ posted a message on the site that read, “Every Issue of Nintendo Power from number 1 to 285 in cbr format. From what I could tell there wasn’t a collection of every single issue in one place but a scattered selection of different sets none of which were complete. So I put this together with the help of some awesome people for all to enjoy.”

Despite not being available anymore, we know how important Nintendo Power is to Nintendo and we’ve previously witnessed how protective they are of their IPs and products. We can only hope that they decide to make magazine issues more accessible in the digital space.
