Back the Durable Immortal Joystick on Kickstarter

Last Updated on October 20, 2023

Want a retro joystick that outperforms your classic kit? The Immortal Joystick is a new hand-assembled, heavy-duty two-button joystick that you can now back on Kickstarter. Compatible with a range of retro and current hardware (via adapters) this is an impressive-looking, zero-latency, traditional joystick.

The Immortal Joystick is the brainchild of Amiga for Mortals, a retro enthusiast. The device is currently backed to 33% on Kickstarter, so requires more support to reach the £25,000 goal.

If you back this project, you’re getting a hand-assembled, heavy duty joystick. Consequently, while lower pledges can be placed to support the projec, you’ll need to stump up £140 to get an actual Immortal Joystick.

For that price, you would expect longevity!

Immortal Joystick device specification

The Immortal Joystick has the following features:

  • Aluminium alloy enclosure
  • Authentic Sanwa Denshi and Seimitsu arcade parts
  • Braided cable
  • Standard moulded DB9 connection
  • Switchable auto-fire
  • Switchable ‘up to button 2’ mapping (up still functions normally)
  • Zero-latency
  • Enclosure size 145 x 121 x 39mm
  • Hand-built in the UK

To clarify, this joystick has a 9-pin Atari standard connector, and as such works on the following systems:

  • Amiga (all models)
  • Atari (all models)
  • ZX Spectrum (using Kempston interface)
  • Commodore 64
  • Vic-20
  • C128
  • Sega Master System

With an adapter attacked, you can also use an Immortal Joystick with:

  • USB for PC, Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi and MiSter
  • Amiga Mini
  • MSX / Sharp X68000
  • BBC Micro
  • Amstrad

While the Immortal Joystick is planned to be British made, there is a caveat: “I have also engaged with a manufacturer that has a factory in China. There is, therefore, a risk that I will have to drop the ‘UK Built’ statement. If this happens, I will be completely upfront and open about changes in costs and my focus will remain on providing the highest quality products.”
