Last Updated on October 15, 2023

Originally intended for release on the Intellivision Amico, the updated Astrosmash is now out on Steam, Xbox, Switch, Windows, & and Apple Mac.

We’ve all been wondering what happened to the Intellivision Amico. Perhaps it will appear one day, but at this point it seems unlikely. It certainly promised an impressive list of games, most of these were cancelled.

One that has survived is this to the 1981 space shooter Astrosmash. Of further interest is that the soundtrack for this remake was by Tommy Tallarico – the guy behind the brief Intellivision revival.

What you may not know is that Tallarico has produced audio on a number of games in the past, including Another World, various entries in the Earthworm Jim series, and many others.

Here’s the synopsis:

Astronauts, to your stations! Embark on an epic journey through the cosmos with ASTROSMASH®, where the only thing between survival and an unyielding interstellar onslaught is your trusty laser cannon. Players will navigate through 10 increasingly challenging levels of pure, celestial adrenaline, annihilating a relentless parade of cosmic adversaries.

From fiery meteors to elusive UFOs, each level intensifies, offering varied velocities, trajectories, and enemy complexities, all set against the backdrop of stunning astronomical vistas and a harmoniously synchronised soundtrack.

Game features include:

  • Single player mode
  • Co-op and versus mode
  • Local and online multiplayer modes up to 4 players (cross platform)
  • 10 different levels
  • Different kind of enemies like spaceships, asteroids, UFOs
